New Study Shows Coronavirus can remain infectious for 28 days on cell phones
A major and new study conducted by researchers at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, has found that coronavirus can survive for up to 28 days on smooth, glass surfaces – such as those found on mobile phone screens, reinforcing the importance of sanitizing your phone whenever possible.
The bad news…
Unfortunately, we have all had to adjust our behavior to avoid the risk of contracting coronavirus. We’re wearing masks, practicing social distancing, limiting indoor gatherings and washing our hands while singing Happy Birthday – twice! But most of us are still using our cell phones much like we always did – and that can be a big problem.
There have been many studies conducted which demonstrate just how dirty our cell phones can be. In fact, they carry 10X more germs and bacteria than most toilet seats. And now, it’s come to light that if any of those germs are SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, they can survive on your cell phone for up to 28 days.
The good news…
UV light, including rays that are in natural sunlight, can rapidly inactivate the virus. However, we often carry our phones in our pockets or pocketbooks, or we use them inside and leave them on our desks, nightstands, etc. – away from any contact with the sun’s rays.
Thankfully, there is a solution. There are many products now on the market that can expose your cell phones to UV light in an artificial way, specifically UV-C light. UV-C light can kill 99% of germs and bacteria without posing any health risks.
And it gets even better…
goCharge has introduced Cell Phone Sanitizing and Charging Stations that will safely and effectively disinfect your cell phone, while also charging its battery. Cell phones can be placed into a locker and plugged into the charging cord that fits that phone – and the UVC light will disinfect the phone in the first 5 minutes of the battery charge. Some lockers will also accommodate up to an 11” iPad or other tablet.
Considering that the average American touches their cell phone 47 times per day, the take away here is that it’s extremely important to sanitize and disinfect your phone as often as you can. And goCharge has the answer!
